AEROSPACE MALAYSIA INNOVATION CENTRE (AMIC) was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, on 16th May 2011 under the company Act 1956. During the Malaysia Aerospace Council (MAC) meeting on December 1, 2010 chaired by YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the Prime Minister of Malaysia has agreed to establish the Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre (AMIC) as an industry led innovation centre to enhance Malaysia’s aerospace industry competitiveness. The formation of AMIC is to complement the ‘Business Services’ of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).
AMIC was developed and championed by the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), the centre is described as an innovative model which substantially improve the commercial success of aerospace research and development projects undertaken in Malaysia.
Our core business is undertaking collaborative research and technology project in collaboration with the industries and the universities in aerospace sector. Research projects will be spearheaded by founding lead members namely EADS, Rolls Royce and CTRM. All research works will be drived, evaluated, and managed by prominent industry experts. Initially three research focus areas have been identified such as jet fuel production from microalgae, innovative manufacturing of aerospace composite structures and advanced new green materials for aerospace.
To coordinate and harness the expertise available in all other universities and provides linkages between relevant industries, AMIC had selected Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as the lead university.
